The Lord guides journal day 5

The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will
strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters
never fail.

Isaiah 58:11

This evening I took a nap after work but felt I needed to sleep a bit longer. Sleep has always been a problem I’ve had, wanting to stay up late and having problems getting up in the morning.

All through school I was this way. My father had been a night owl, my mother an early bird. I inherited my dad’s genes, I guess.

I downloaded an app called “Balance” that helps with sleep. It’s free for the first year and has many guided meditations for sleep and meditations that you can use throughout the day.

After work I tried the Sleep Sounds meditation called “Forest” that caused me to fall asleep peacefully and sleep soundly for about two hours. This nap, of course, will probably cause me to not want to sleep again until about 2:00 am. I need more sleep during the night though, starting at about 11:00 pm which puts a crimp in my style, because I get my second wind later in the day and am wide awake around midnight.

I use another app which I paid for called “mindroid” that measures sleep and gives graphs and charts of your sleep, sleep deprivation and other measurements. I can see how much sleep I’ve had each night (5 hours 29 mins) and also how much sleep you got during your naps. I check this daily to see how much sleep I’ve gotten and whether a nap is necessary during the day.

Sleep is very important. Without summarizing a research study about sleep I know we are creatures of habit and God’s got a way to create better ways of doing things, like getting me out of my habits of taking a nap every day so I can sleep at night – at least that’s what I pray today.

Naps may be healthy but not to be used to sleep for hours and then keep a cycle going of sleeping after work then staying up half the night. There has to be a better way to live.

God bless and I hope and pray you have a better evening than me and can get to bed on time!
